The Soundbite Book Review Competition challenged children to review a favourite book – but to do so in hardly any words at all! Here are the winning soundbites. A picture of the winners is below.
My book is about a little girl called Matilda who loves reading books but as well as her love for reading she also discovers some super powers. My favourite part was when Bruce Bogtrotter was tempted to eat a huge chocolate cake by Miss Trunchball. I love the ending where Matilda lived with her teacher Miss Honey for the rest of Matilda’s life.
I would recommend the book this book called I Don’t Like Peas. It is so funny. I could read it all day! My favourite part was when Daisy tells Mum to eat Brussels sprouts because Daisy knows that her Mum does not like Brussels sprouts! I would recommend it to 5 -11 year olds.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is about a wizard called Harry. Harry competes in the Quidditch cup and sees dementors, which make him pass out. The book should be 8+ and not for the faint-hearted. Not for people who hate murders! People who love magic and adventures should read this book.
I chose The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me because it helps me understand the importance of teamwork and how to make good friends. I really enjoyed this book and maybe you will too, so that’s why I recommend the book to anyone. My favourite part is when the pelican catches a noisy burglar in its mouth.
Tom Gates is an amazing author; I would recommend him to everyone I know. You should read him, whatever age you are. I asked my family if they liked him and everyone did. My mum said, “He is so funny. I loved the book.” You will love it too!
I like Matilda because it’s funny, interesting and uses great words. It’s also fun to read, as it features odd things, like power from Matilda’s eyes. I also like Miss Trunchball because of her superhuman abilities and she’s funny. It’s a really good book to pass time away, as it’s long and takes up time on the train.
Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse is about a girl called Ada Goth. She lives at Ghastly-Gorm Hall with her father Lord Goth and half a dozen ghosts. She hasn’t got any friends to explore her enormous, creepy house with. Until one night… I recommend his book because it is funny, interesting and draws your attention.
My favourite book is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I love Harry Potter because I find it really magical. When I read it, I feel like I am there. I feel like I am walking around the school and experiencing all the things Harry sees and feels. The Chamber of Secrets is full of suspense and excitement. A great second book in the JK Rowling series.
